In 1861, widower, Mary Higham purchased the land on the corner of High and Market Streets in Fremantle and built a two story premises on the site in 1862. The building which exists on the site today was built by Alice Higham, widower of Mary's son, Edward who died only two years after his mother in 1885. This building replaced the original store which was demolished. The building was refitted in 1996 following a fire which gutted the building.
