Mundaring Truffle Festival 2009Saturday 8th August 2009 to Sunday 9th August 2009 For accommodation in Perth book early and book online at Perth Accommodation For many centuries, black truffles have been growing wild in certain parts of Europe, particularly in France and Italy. The rarity and scarcity of these 'black diamonds' makes them very expensive. At between $2000 and $2500 per kilogram, they are the second most expensive food commodity in the world.
The black truffle, tuber melanosporum, is the truffle you'll find throughout France and in parts of Italy. This is the truffle being grown in Manjimup.
The Mundaring Truffle Festival has been designed as a celebration of this most desirable of edible commodities, and brings together some of Australia’s finest chefs. We also have a wonderful programme of complementary events, including tastings, talks and food-related forums for those interested in learning about not just the truffle itself, but how to make use of its unique culinary qualities. So please, come and join us in Mundaring, in the beautiful Perth Hills, where we'll be offering good food, fine wine and a range of activities in celebration of Western Australia's most glamorous culinary export: the black truffle.
