Pietro Giacomo Porcelli was born in Bisceglie, Bari, Italy on January 30th 1872 and moved to Sydney with is father when he was 8 years old. After a short return to Maples in Italy to study drawing and sculpture, Porcelli returned to Australia (Fremantle) in 1898. Porcelli married Martha Massie Goodwin, a Welsh governess on 8th January 1910 and they had a daughter and a son. Porcelli used a variety of materials included stone, clay, plaster and marble. Pietro Giacomo Porcelli sculptures in Fremantle include the C.Y. O'Conner statue at Fremantle Harbour and the Explorers Monument.
